Flower of the Star Magnolia

Here is a Star Magnolia (Magnolia stellata) flower blooming in Memphis, Indiana. According to Wikipedia, this shrub or small tree originated in Japan. It flowers appear in early spring before its leaves. The tree can grow to 6 meters (20 feet).

This planting consists of two trees that grow in a shaded area next to the house. It pretty much grows by itself in a gravel garden with some hostas and calla lillies for company.
